Friend or stranger? Encountering people of other faiths: a one day conference at Leeds Trinity University
The day will include a range of talks, seminar style discussions, and debates between a range of religious groups in the West Yorkshire area.
This Interfaith Day is inspired by the 2010 Catholic Bishops conference of England and Wales, ‘Meeting God in Friend and Stranger.’ The event, entitled,‘Who is friend? Who is stranger?’ aims to promote inter-religious understanding and dialogue through discussion and debate on the topic of how to approach other faiths. This conference is free and open to all members of the public who book in advance.
The day will involve talks from many influential religious leaders and academics, including Leeds Trinity's resident Catholic chaplain, Fr. Paul Grogan. The day aims to strengthen the relationships between major world religions represented in the North East area of the country, reflecting the everyday cultural and religious interaction and integration, which the dawn of the ‘global village’ has created in recent years.
Represented faith groups will include Christianity, Islam and Judaism, as well as wider religions originating from further East, such as Sikhism and the Baha’i faith.
