Faith Fest 2011 Launch Event: and related events during the week in Bedford

Over 600 school children from Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire will enjoy an interactive exhibition of the beliefs and practices of Bedford’s major religions at Faith Fest 2011 thanks to the efforts of Bedford Council of Faiths in collaboration with SACRE .

To mark   ‘Celebrating RE’ month, Faith Fest 2011 will be held at The King Room, Bedford Modern School, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8-10 March.

On Monday 7th March at 1:30pm, the Mayor of Bedford and Revd Dr Andrew Rowley, School Chaplain of Bedford Modern School as part of The Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust) will officially open Faith Fest 2011 giving invited guests and members of the local media the opportunity to view the exhibition before the first of many schools arrive on Tuesday morning.

Classes of 7-11 year olds from Lower and Middle schools will spend over an hour at the event learning from displays set up by each of the nine faiths represented on Bedford Council of Faiths and talking to faith representatives.

Pupils will learn about the history, beliefs, sacred texts and festivals of Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, as well as about Quakers, Jains, Sikhs, Hindus and Bahá'í’s.

The subject matter in the interactive displays is designed to contribute to, develop and extend pupils’ learning in Religious Education.
