Exploring the Role of Faith in Public Life.
“Has faith a role to play in shaping public and international policy?"
At a meeting in the House of Lords, organised by Religions for Peace UK during Interfaith Week 2010, Mr. Oliver McTernan, director of Forward Thinking, raised the question “Has faith a role to play in shaping public and international policy?"
Religions for Peace (UK) in partnership with St Ethelburga's will continue to examine this theme.
You are invited to contribute to discussions which will explore
· the boundaries between faith and public life
· is it ever legitimate for believers to engage in efforts to change laws so as to reflect their own fundamental beliefs and morals?
· is it ever legitimate for believers to try to shape the morals of a state and if so what means should or should not be used to achieve this?
· how should the belief that there should be no coercion in religion be reflected in the political/social activities of believers?
· is witness a more powerful tool than the use of law in promoting fundamental values and morals?
