ENGAGE Birmingham – Youth Work Training Course

A training initiative organised by the Feast in partnership with the Centre for Youth Ministry and the Christian Muslim Forum.

Commencing in September 2013 we are offering a Certificate at Level 3 ‘Assistant Youth Support Worker’ training course for Christian and Muslim youth workers. The course will include a dedicated theological reflection aspect for each faith.

What is it?

ENGAGE is an ‘open learning course’ which uses different elements to enable participants to learn more about youth work and to develop their own understanding and skills. It is a nationally accredited youth work practice programme leading to a certificate at Level 3, Assistant Youth Support Worker (A Level standard). This is the foundation level training required by local authority youth services.

The course will delivered by appropriately qualified and experienced tutors. These will include:

  • Geoff Harley-Mason – Lead Tutor and Tutor responsible for the Christian theological reflection.
  • Nahim Khan – Tutor responsible for the Muslim theological reflection.

Commitment for Certificate:

  • 30 hours of learning at 6 training days during the 12 months
  • 90 hours to read, study, reflect and write 4 assignments to be handed in over the course of the year
  • 96 hours of face to face youth work with 11-19 year olds
  • 22 hours of talking with your mentor

Where is it?

ENGAGE Birmingham – The Feast will be taking place in Sparkhill Birmingham, at the Faithful Neighbourhood Centre.

When is it?

The 6 training days will be held on the following Saturdays.

  2. 9th November
  3. 25th January 2014
  4. 15th March
  5. 10th May

Who is it for?

ENGAGE is designed for people who work with young people in their spare-time or on a part-time basis. This award meets the requirements for assistant or full Youth Support Worker status; it is validated by NOCN and accredited by Staffordshire University. Completion of the course would put a youth worker in a good place to go on to a degree with a JNC qualification in youth work.
